Completed projects include:

Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
Numerous EIAs were conducted prior to the EIA regulations gazetted in September 1997, and we have undertaken over 500 projects in terms of the new regulations, including full public participation programmes. Strategic environmental assessments have been undertaken where required. Experience and knowledge allows us to undertake external reviews of EIAs as well.

Environmental Management Systems
The consultants have assisted companies to develop and implement Environmental Management Systems (EMS) in terms of SABS ISO 14001, which includes writing company environmental policies, targets and objectives. Specific EMS training courses have been presented to petrochemical companies and in the steel industry.

Environmental Audits
The firm has been involved in numerous projects - specifically in the petrochemical industry – in which bulk fuel depots, service stations, customer installations and road and rail accident sites were audited and investigated. We looked for contamination to determine potential hazards and risk to the environment, as well as for due diligence purposes.

Contamination Assessments

The source, extent and significance of soil and water pollution at more than 500 sites have been assessed. Soil vapour surveys have been undertaken at many of these sites. The firm has successfully designed remediation systems for polluted soil, groundwater and surface water bodies in terms of Risk Based Corrective Action (RBCA) procedures. Ongoing remediation projects are monitored accordingly.

Environmental Training
Environmental awareness courses have been designed and presented to all levels of staff at companies. Courses have also been presented to company contractors and dealers.

Waste Management
Existing waste disposal sites have been investigated and permit applications for closure submitted. New sites have been selected, investigated and permit applications submitted. Waste management strategies have also been undertaken. These projects have included consultation with authorities as well as interested and affected parties. Assistance has also been given to companies with regard to the storage, handling and disposal of hazardous materials.

Geohydrological Investigations
Studies have been conducted for rural clinics, schools and housing developments to determine groundwater availability, and to ensure sustainable use of the resource.

Engineering Geological Investigations
Engineering geological investigations include dolomite stability investigations, foundation investigations for single and multi-storey buildings, deep basement investigations, slope stability studies, the evaluation of road building and construction materials and community-based assessment of damaged houses.

Our experience has enabled us to establish good working relationships with the relevant state departments, such as Water Affairs and Forestry, Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Health and Population Development, as well as Services Councils and Local Authorities. We are approved consultants to the Departments of Water Affairs and Forestry as well as Environmental Affairs and Tourism.

Our firm is committed to conducting efficient investigations using the best available resources and techniques to provide feasible, cost effective and sustainable solutions to environmental problems. The principles of Integrated Environmental Management are applied in all projects.
